Triton Robotics is a UC San Diego robotics project team founded in 2017. We compete in ARC Robotics, formerly RoboMaster North America, and bring together students who want to design, build, and compete with real robots.

The competition

Three robots. One battlefield.

The ARC Championship is an annual robotics competition where teams of three robots compete for control of the battlefield. Robots use projectiles, coordinated movement, and strategy to capture points and win the match. Two robots are remotely operated, while the third is fully autonomous.

Explore our subteams

Mechanical

Design and manufacture robust robot systems using CAD, Onshape, 3D printing, waterjetting, laser cutting, sheet metal, and carbon fiber.

Current goals: improve the Senfantry chassis and revamp Hero.

Embedded

Build the hardware and software integration layer through sensors, controls, wiring, soldering, communications, firmware, and Zephyr RTOS.

Current goals: improve controls, integrate sensors, and strengthen hardware reliability.

Electronics

Design custom PCBs and organize the electrical systems that connect every part of the robot, from breakout boards and IMUs to wiring and power systems.

Current goals: consolidate breakout boards, develop a custom encoder, and improve power systems.

Autonomy

Develop autonomous movement and targeting through computer vision, object detection, LiDAR, SLAM, Nav2, trajectory generation, and simulation.

Current goals: improve computer vision and navigation with Nav2.

Admin

Support the organization through event planning, industry partnerships, fundraisers, outreach, social events, graphic design, social media, and website management.

Current goals: grow the team community and strengthen its public presence.

What we value

You do not need to know everything.

We are looking for honesty, maturity, commitment, and people who are willing to ask questions and communicate. You do not need to be a specific major or arrive as an expert. Training is designed to help recruits build the skills needed to contribute meaningfully.

New recruits do not pay dues until they become full members. Recruits are expected to participate consistently, communicate when they need help, and work with their subteam throughout the week.

Frequently asked questions

When do you accept members?

Recruitment cycles generally take place in late summer, during the first weeks of fall, and during the first week of winter quarter. Exact dates are announced when each cycle opens.

Do I need prior experience?

Prior experience is helpful but not required. Mechanical experience with CAD is recommended, Electronics experience with PCBs is helpful, and Embedded or Autonomy applicants should be familiar with programming in C++ and/or Python. Every subteam provides training.

What happens after I am accepted?

New members begin as recruits, complete a training program, and receive a capstone project. Recruits are offered full membership after completing the training program and capstone.

How much time does Triton Robotics require?

Members work on assigned tasks throughout the week and communicate with their leads when they need help or more time. The goal is consistent, reasonable contribution rather than knowing everything from day one.

Can I switch subteams?

Members generally stay with their accepted subteam for one academic year. Switching is handled through a future recruitment application or an approved role trade.
